Description: The LAMP (lysosomal associated membrane protein) family consists of two members, LAMP-1 and LAMP-2. They are ubiquitously expressed type I transmembrane glycoproteins found in lysosomal and cell membranes. They are only 37% amino acid identical, and show no definitive structural domains. They are involved in autophagy and may bind selectins on the cell surface. |

Description: LAMP-1 Antibody: Autophagy, the process of bulk degradation of cellular proteins through an autophagosomic-lysosomal pathway is important for normal growth control and may be defective in tumor cells. It is involved in the preservation of cellular nutrients under starvation conditions as well as the normal turnover of cytosolic components and is negatively regulated by TOR (Target of rapamycin). A protein recently found to be involved in autophagy, LAMP-2, is a highly glycosylated protein associated with the lysosome. LAMP-1 shares much homology to LAMP-2 and is thought to have overlapping functions. Mice lacking LAMP-1 had very minor defects compared to those deficient in LAMP-2 expression. However, the loss of both proteins resulted in embryonic lethality, suggesting that each protein possesses some unique and necessary functions. |

Description: CD63 antigen is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CD63 gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily, also known as the tetraspanin family. Most of these members are cell-surface proteins that are characterized by the presence of four hydrophobic domains. It is mapped to 12q13.2. CD63 is mainly associated with membranes of intracellular vesicles, although cell surface expression may be induced. The proteins mediate signal transduction events that play a role in the regulation of cell development, activation, growth and motility. This encoded protein is a cell surface glycoprotein that is known to complex with integrins. It may function as a blood platelet activation marker. Deficiency of this protein is associated with Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome. Also this gene has been associated with tumor progression. |

Description: CD63 is expressed on activated platelets, monocytes and macrophages, and is weakly expressed on granulocytes, T cell and B cells. It is located on the basophilic granule membranes and on the plasma membranes of lymphocytes and granulocytes. CD63 is a member of the TM4 superfamily of leukocyte glycoproteins that includes CD9, CD37 and CD53, which contain four transmembrane regions. CD63 may play a role in phagocytic and intracellular lysosome-phagosome fusion events. CD63 deficiency is associated with Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome and is strongly expressed during the early stages of melanoma progression. |
